Family Faith Formation 2020-21

We are making some changes to our elementary faith formation program this year due to COVID-19. Instead of in-person Sunday School and Wednesday Night Faith Formation classes, we will be offering Family Faith Formation for children in Grades K-8.

The Family Faith Formation program comes from the Sophia Institute, and provides families with paper materials, including a parent book and books for each child. Instead of teaching by individual grade level, this Family Faith Formation curriculum is designed for the whole family and provides activities for every age level to learn and grow in their faith. This year, the program will focus on prayer and how prayer is vital to our relationship with Jesus. There is a chapter of the book for each week beginning in October and ending in April.  This program is also designed to be very flexible, providing parents with the freedom to pick and choose the activities that work for their family, and when to schedule the activities into their weeks.

Our Coordinators of Faith Formation, Liz and Laura, will meet with parents via Zoom once a month to offer support and answer questions.

The cost for the Family Faith Formation materials is $25 per child. This cost includes the parent curriculum book, and an activity book for each child registered. Scholarships are available. You may request or donate to a scholarship when filling out the online registration below.

Children learn the faith first and foremost from their parents and guardians at home. We hope that this program provides the opportunity to kindle love, understanding, and strong faith in families, and helps all of us to refocus on what is truly important. Liz and Laura are praying for the parishioners at Corpus Christi and are willing to help in any way they can.

Virtual Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Corpus Christi will begin a virtual Children’s Liturgy of the Word program on Sunday, December 20th. We invite children PreK-5th grade to join us each Sunday at 9:00am on Zoom as we learn how the Scripture speaks to our lives and how we can respond in active ways. The program will be around 20-30 minutes long and consists of music, Scripture reflection, take-home activities, and community sharing with one another. We hope this program is beneficial to your young ones as we connect safely with one another in the community! If you are interested in joining, please contact Laura at laura@ccmn.org.

Children’s Worship Bulletins

Children’s Worship Bulletins are a great resource to deepen your child’s faith during or after Sunday Mass, and Corpus Christi is now making the bulletins available to print at home! Each bulletin reflects on the Sunday Gospel reading and brings children further into the Gospel with various activities and learning opportunities. There are two different bulletins provided, one for children ages 3-6 and the other for children ages 7-12. Click on the links below for the current Sunday’s Children’s Worship Bulletins or find printed copies in the entryway of the Corpus Christi Parish Office.

Family Faith Formation Calendar

Sunday School (suspended for 2020-21)

Our Sunday School Program meets on Sundays from 10:00 to 11:00 AM from September through April. Children join their families at the 10:30 AM Mass for the Liturgy of the Eucharist immediately following classroom activities. All parish children, Preschool through Grade 5 are welcomed and encouraged to register for this program.

During Sunday School, children will hear the Sunday Gospel story and focus on one topic of Catholic teaching. Also, children will learn and/or practice various Catholic prayers throughout the Sunday School year.

Advent, Lenten, and Social Justice projects are also an important component of the Sunday School curriculum. Advent and Lenten activities allow the children to learn and grow in their Catholic faith within the liturgical seasons. Social Justice projects are designed to make children aware of others in their community and throughout the world, and how their actions can make a difference.

A Nursery, staffed by parent and youth volunteers from the parish, is available during the 10:30 AM Mass on Sundays when Sunday School is in session. The Nursery is located in the school wing.

Laura Schaad is a cradle Catholic who continues to learn and grow in the beautiful faith of the Church. She graduated from College of Saint Benedict in May 2019 with a BA in Theology and Secondary Education. While undergoing her student teaching experience, Laura heard God calling her to teach the faith in a parish church instead of a traditional school classroom. She is delighted to be a part of the Corpus Christi community and is excited to care for and learn from the parishioners here. Laura hopes to connect with every community member over a possible common love for cooking, baking, books, TV shows, Minnesota, and of course, Catholicism.
