Through this holy anointing and his great love for you,
may the Lord help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit.
May the Lord who frees you from sin, save you and raise you up.
With these words and the simultaneous anointing of the forehead and palms of the hand, the Church administers to her sick members the healing Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is part of the Church’s pastoral care of those suffering from illness and disease and is not a sacrament only for those who are at the point of death. The instruction for the rite says clearly that anyone who begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age should request the sacrament. Those who will be having surgery, when serious illness is the reason for the surgery, those who suffer from chronic illness or disease, those whose conditions worsen or those who are battling a life threatening disease, are examples of those who should request to receive this sacrament. As a community, we have the opportunity to pray with and for those among us who are suffering from serious illness.
Father will administer this Sacrament to those needing spiritual and/or physical strength.
This rite is intended to convey God’s grace to those who receive it, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
At our annual anointing Mass, we will join together for fellowship and a luncheon after Mass. Please think about those who you know and love that would benefit by this anointing and extend the invitation to them.
A signup sheet will be available in the gather area as we get closer to September. Please contact the Parish Office for more information at 651.639.8888.
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is meant to strengthen the human spirit. As the community gathers to offer support we all pray for the healing of the persons who receive the sacrament, remember that healing and a cure for disease may be two different things. We grow together in faith, when we are called to trust that the loving God who made us will accompany us in our suffering. Whether we are ill or not, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is meant to renew our hope, calm our anxiety, assure us of the saving presence of Christ through the laying on of hands and strengthen our faith in God as the source of life in this world and the next.
